The Church’s Ministry among Jewish People

CMJ is an Anglican missionary society which began in the UK amongst Jewish people in 1809.  Its founders and supporters included Joseph Frey, William Wilberforce and Lord Shaftesbury.

‘I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, and then for the Gentile.’ - Romans 1 v 16

Our mandate from the beginning has been to bear witness to Jewish people that Jesus (Yeshua) is their Messiah, according to the witness of the Hebrew Scriptures and to support those who trust in Jesus both as individuals and in groups or congregations.  When directed toward the church our focus is to educate Christians on the Jewish roots of our faith.  We also believe that God is at work restoring Jewish people to the church and breaking down the dividing walls between Jewish and Gentile disciples of Jesus.  Typically we headline these aims as three “E”s:

Evangelism/Engagement: We have a team of Community Based Evangelists bearing witness in Jewish communities in London, the Midlands, Manchester and Gateshead introducing them to Jesus, the Jewish Messiah.

Education: CMJ is passionate about the Word of God, and has a desire to see the church worldwide reaching her fullest understanding of how the Old and New Testaments work together, to bring a full understanding of the gospel.  We have an extensive exhibition, The Bible Comes to Life, a growing Youth ministry through our annual Youth Conference in partnerships with Youth for Christ, and a regular teaching programme online, through tours, visiting speakers, teaching about the Biblical Feasts and trips to Israel.

Encouragement: Jewish believers in Jesus can get cut off from their Jewish communities and so we encourage them to maintain connections wherever possible and also connect with other Jewish believers (Messianic Jews) in local groups and congregations.  CMJ UK also supports the work of CMJ Israel in Jerusalem, the Galilee and Tel Aviv.

All Saints Trull is supporting CMJ in terms of prayer, and we will be bringing regular updates as and when we can.
